No Ads on 9/11/02. Help me out here.

According to this story, the FOX TV network won’t be accepting advertising on 9/11/02, the one year anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the U.S. Apparently it wouldn’t be right. It looks like other networks may be doing the same thing.

Can someone explain this to me? Why is it wrong to have TV ads on that day? I can certainly see wanting to do away with TV ads altogether, every day, but why is it inappropriate on just that day and not, say, December 7th, or December 25th, or any other day? And if it is inappropriate, when will it cease to be? Will TV ads on 9-11-2012 be ok?

I’m not trying to be obtuse here, but I really don’t get this. And I’m really concerned when I hear people saying that it’s wrong to not have ads because buying stuff is the best thing we can do for our country.

Have we all lost our minds, or is it just me?
