Wow, that pro-Twitter article demolished an entire platoon of straw men! I’d take the ball-point pen analogy a bit further: it’s like a ball-point pen in which the ink craps out every time you finish a sentence.

I don’t get the hysteria over Twitter either (although all the corporations jumping onto the bandwagon is a bit obnoxious) but I don’t see his ‘Twitter is only a note-taking technology’ argument. The medium in which you take notes has an enormous impact on what you write – if I read a book, listen to a lecture, whatever, the notes I take will be very different depending on whether I’m using a notepad or a laptop. Form in this case does impact function. The corporate-twitters are a case in point – they’re not sure not mailing out moleskins to millions of people in an effort to market their products.

Twitter is just a thing, like instant messaging or blogs or Facebook or whatever. I don’t understand why those who for some reason oppose it seem to have to do so so vehemently. There’s the constant joke about “broadcasting your every waking thought” but I sure don’t see those folks reigning in their opinions on Twitter — the disdain is always loud and clear.
