A couple of people have sent me this fantastic news:
Blizzard has officially announced Diablo 3! As one of the seventeen people still playing Diablo 2 regularly, I am very excited about this. They have an official site for the game, with screenshots and a demo movie. It looks awesome.
Of course, its awesome-lookingness is in almost direct opposition to my chances of being able to run it. My computer got a little light-headed just looking at the screenshots and had to lie down for a bit.
There’s also a list of Frequently Asked Questions that make me think that maybe this announcement was a little early? Here are actual, unedited questions and their answers:
Q: What’s new about Diablo III compared to the previous Diablo games?
A: Too early to say.
Q: How many character classes are included in Diablo III? What are they?
A: We don’t know yet.
Q: Will players be able to choose the gender of their character, regardless of class?
A: Not sure at this point.
Q: Will there be a single-player component in addition to multiplayer?
A: Possibly. Who knows?
Q: What are the system requirements for Diablo III?
A: Let us hope that in the fullness of time an answer will reveal itself.
I realize it’s only advertised as a list of questions, not answers, and I realize that even if they say “THIS WON’T BE OUT UNTIL 2010 AT THE EARLIEST” they’re still gonna get multiple boneheads wondering why it’s not available at their local GameStop. But jeez, there’s so little information there.
So to recap: at some point Blizzard is releasing a game that may or may not be called Diablo 3 in which some characters do something — possibly online — and it looks great.
