What if Eve offered Adam the fruit and he refused to eat it? According to Burger King, all you need to do is slice it up to look like a French fry to tempt the appetite. In late 2007, BK started test marketing apples cut to look like fries and served in “frypods” as part of their kids’ meals.

And now they’ve arrived in Vegas. I suppose some people will applaud BK for offering healthier alternatives, but I just find it disturbing. Why can’t kids just eat apples that look like apples? And really, don’t most kids like apples anyway? It doesn’t strike me as a playful or whimsical way to get kids to eat healthily, like cutting their sandwiches into hearts or stars on occasion. Instead, it just reinforces the supremacy of the French fry. If they could get the average kid to eat asparagus and jicama, then maybe I’d be impressed.

What a weird idea. It kinda makes me sad; we’re turning into a nation of junk food addicts, to the extent that something perfectly tasty like an apple needs to be gussied up as junk food.
Burger King seems to want everything to look like fries. They even have chicken tenders that resemble fries that come in a Fry Pod. I’m even disturbed by the “FryPod”. The commercials are also kind of creepy. I don’t know about you, but if I was awakened from sleep by a guy in a King costume waving a burger under my nose I think I would be kicking a little Burger King ass!
Yes, those Frypods are troubling, but I will concede that they fit well in one of the fifteen (fifteen!) cupholders in our minivan. I suppose that shaping chicken tenders to resemble fries makes them easier to snarf down during rush hour traffic. That’s healthy eating for ya….BK also molds chicken into crown shapes for the kids meal. Shudder. And that bobble-head King definitely is sick and wrong.
