I hesitate to volunteer this here, but despite his abrasiveness, I will credit him with some decent work on the Bullshit series. People believing in moronic scams is something that we should always challenge. I don’t love him mind you, but I’m just sayin’……
I heartily agree with Kevin Smith / Jason Mewes. And Dave T., point well taken on the numeric backing of claims – a better mythbusting show would be a good thing, but at least it’s a start. I’d love to see a James Randi show.
I saw a couple of episodes of “Bullshit!” and I wasn’t that impressed, despite my interest in mythbusting. They did one on the environmental movement which just had Penn Jillette repeating over and over how it was bullshit without backing up that assertion with anything resembling a supporting argument.
I second the Ellison. I’d add Dave Sim, Orson Scott Card (even though “Ender’s Game” was terrific) and especially Kevin Smith / Jason Mewes.
Dave, is there some list you are referring to for these (I don’t see one in the original post), or is this a homegrown list you are making up as you go? Assuming the latter. Well, bring on the abuse, because while I don’t mind people poking fun at Jillette, I think Randi is awesome, and what he does invaluable. There ya go……
If it weren’t for Penn Jillette we might not have ever heard the album Charmed Life. For this he gets my eternal gratitude. Other than this, the one time I’ve seen his act on TV, the fact that he’s from Greenfield and that through the local vinyl collector grapevine I heard that he bought a bunch of Song Poem albums from collector in Mass I don’t really know that much about him. He’s pretty famous in the underground music scene… I don’t know about him on TV or him in personal life. Why is he an ass?
