So…Is There Anyone Here Who ISN’T a Skrull?

Previews time! Callooh Callay! What treasures await inside this magical tome of wonder and wow? Let’s take a look!

Gantz vol. 1 (p. 34) – The write-up for this manga series — dead folks who are somehow in the thrall of an alien orb — is intriguing enough for me to gamble on the first volume.

Lobster Johnson: Iron Prometheus vol 1 (p. 53) – The Hellboy parade marches on. I’m very much looking forward to this one.

The Spirit #16 (p. 96)

Showcase Presents: Green Lantern vol 3 (p. 104) – Essential.

Heroes SC (p. 118) – When the hardcover came out, I decided to wait for the softcover. Here it is, but now I find I just don’t care. Pass.

Vertigo: First Cut TP (p. 128) – This is your chance to get an inexpensive look at the first issues of series you’re kind of surprised are still going on.

Jack Staff # 16 (p. 168) – Well, I’ll be! The Jack Staff Special actually came out the other week! I know better to hope that this “now monthly!” thing is for real because I’ve been heartbroken so many times before.

Glamourpuss #1 (p. 201) – Holy cow, a new series from Dave Sim! I’m going to not buy this 250 times!!!

Thoreau at Walden (p. 304) – Pick of the month! Thoreau’s words illustrated by John Porcellino…I can’t wait!

Doctor Who #4 (p. 310) – Please please please be good.

Wasteland #17 (p. 325)

Little Things (p. 356) – I have come to really like Jeffrey Brown’s work.

Brickjournal Compendium vol 1 (p. 357) – It’s a shame this is so pricey cause man oh man do I want it.

Hikaru no Go vol 12 (p. 380) – I need to catch up on these. I always enjoy them, but for some reason I never get to them right away.

(pp 408-409) – All these Indiana Jones tie-in books and not one, “The Philosophy of Indiana Jones”? Someone is not doing his job.

Heroes action figures (p. 437) – Long before Weapon X, there was the poorly thought out “Weapon P”:

X-Wing Fighter something something statue something (pp. 492-493) – Meet the unhappiest rebel!

“Guys, how does this defeat the Empire again?”

Doctor Who “Damaged Cyberman” action figure (p. 502) – Same price as a regular Cyberman figure, but with 40% less plastic!

Doctor Who Micro Universe Game (p. 535) – Oh man. These need to never be easily purchasable by me at all. Cause if they are, it’ll be just like popcorn.

That’s it for this month, folks!

    Hey Dave,

Tell me how the Walden comic is when it comes out–I’m teaching an American Renaissance course next quarter, and it might come in handy. Or is your comment that you “can’t wait” ironic, and you have no intention whatsoever of purchasing it? I can’t tell, as I know absolutely nothing about the comics world, and very little about your true attitude toward any given comic.

    April,

I don’t mean for my sarcasm to be a hindrance. As an easy guideline, in Previews posts anything that’s in bold is something I’m getting and italics indicate something I’m merely commenting (i.e., taking cheap shots at) on. So my statement about the Thoreau book is genuine — I’ve become very enamored of John Porcellino’s art and I think Thoreau’s words are a good match for him. I’ll let you know when it comes out.
