Perhaps I’ve Talked Too Much About My Urine Lately?

Ah well!

Yesterday I was supposed to go to Unity Games, an all-day boardgaming event that I’ve been looking forward to. Alas, around 3am I woke up with some pain and by 4:30am I was back in the ER with another kidney stone. Actually, it’s probably the same kidney stone, which never actually passed, just rattled around in there for longer before making another attempt yesterday morning. The pain this time was worse than last time; I was about ready to confess to every single crime on 24 to make it stop.

So no Unity for me, instead I ate Percoset, drank water, and slept all day. The doctor told me to strain when I pee but honestly, it’s not that hard to do. (BA DUM BUM!) Hopefully I’ll capture the rascal soon (Doc said it’s about 4mm, which is big but not too big) and then I’ll show it to all of you! I’m sure you can’t wait!

I’m not very good at playing Guitar Hero when on Percoset, but that’s not surprising. The drug warnings advise against operating heavy metal machinery while taking it.

BY THE WAY: here is how to avoid having this happen to you: drink plenty of water. Seriously, that’s the best way to prevent stones.

Hopefully it won’t take too long to pass, and you’ll be back at your previous Guitar Hero proficiency levels (or Better!) shortly.

Until then, you have my empathy and best wishes.

Rock out with your, well, you know. Condolences on missing Unity. I have OwlCon coming up in 2 weekends so am hopeful nothing messes with that.

Is there such a thing as a “small” kidney stone? So you will have a small pea in your pee. Feel better

The wife suggests that it’s time to put a StoneWatch 2008! ticker on your blog. This way we can all just check back periodically and not have to ask you “is it passed yet?”

Call when you get to 9mm that way I can make it by 10mm and we can celebrate the joyous occasion. I already have names picked out. If it’s a girl call it Pebbles and a boy, Rocky. By the way if your giving birth to a kidney stone would that qualify as “Hard Labor”! I got a million of them and will be here all week. Seriously…Get well soon.

Hmmm…perhaps this is Karma’s way of dealing with someone who posted a fake photo of his previous kidney stone?

  7. Karma indeed. 8) Dave, I feel for you and your pain. Why not turn this into another contest like the leaf bagging? Could make a bad situation “Fun”. Everyone submits a date and the person closest without the date having past wins another glorious Lartigue prize. [Don’t necessarily want the stone though]. My vote for passage: 02/14/08.

  8. Dan says:

Ugh. That really sucks. Hope you feel better soon!

  9. Vicky says:

Hope your feeling better soon. Too bad you can’t get six weeks off with pay once you pass it since it sounds like it’s as bad as giving birth.

  10. pronoblem says:

As Parnell would say: “God’s dealing with ya”.

We need to have a contest like the leaf bagging or your common baby pool. When will Dave produce a stone? Date, size, color, etc… winner gets a pinky ring with the stone mounted in it.

Water might help, but so does a diet of foods low in calcium oxalate. So, pretty much a meat only diet just to be safe…

Sorry you missed Unity. Get well, man. Hope to see you on a Sunday soon.
