A few items of interest I left out of the previous post:
I should point out that the way we got to hear from any doctor regarding our dad’s case was to make sure we were in his room when they did their rounds. They won’t talk on the phone, won’t return calls, won’t schedule appointments. As Carol said, it’s like hunting: you have to go early in the morning, lay in wait, and hope they come by to feed. The doctors we had to deal with all did their rounds in the early morning, so one of us tried to be there at 5-6am each morning. Was this specifically in the hopes of not seeing family members? I don’t know.
For the first time in about 15 years I had boiled crawfish. Holy cow that was good. Boiled crawfish and Abita Amber. there isn’t much I miss about living in Louisiana, but that’s two right there.
Legion of Superheroes
While I was down there I was reading the Showcase Presents: Legion of Superheroes book. Man, this is possibly the best yet of these volumes. I have never been overly familiar with the LSH despite the teachings of my friend Chris, who is a die-hard fan. Man, for those of you who feel that Superman is a dick, you clearly haven’t read the Legion of Super-Heroes. A bigger group of arrogant assholes you’ll ne’er meet. These stories are awesome.
I forgot to mention dad’s eyepatch! The stroke really kayoed his vision, which wasn’t fantastic to begin with. One of his eyes is much worse than the other, enough that it interferes with his sight, as he can’t focus them both. So he got an eyepatch to cover the bad one. Cap’n Dad claimed it didn’t make any difference, but it clearly did, as he was able to eat and stuff a lot better with it. I honestly think if they could get him some of his vision back we’d see some general improvement, so hopefully this is a step in that direction.
I also joined the new wave of technology (where “new” means “several years ago”). Since dad can’t really use his cell phone right now and it’s paid for anyway, I am using it at the moment. I have to say it’s pretty handy, but when it comes down to it, it’s still just a damn phone and I don’t really like those in the first place.
There was something else I was going to mention but I forgot what it was.
