My buddy Dave recently sent me the Doctor Who Completely Unofficial Encyclopedia. Among the hilarious, interesting, and pathetically sad entries is a note of various advertisements involving the Doctor, his friends, and his foes (that is, ads that don’t involve the show itself or merchandise from the show.) Thanks to the magic of YouTube, you can also see some of these ads!
Let’s start out with a Dalek alerting his comrades to some breakfast cereal that threatens them:
The video here is poor quality, but the Fourth Doctor and K-9 are advertising delicious frozen treats in this cartoon:
Allegedly Tom Baker suggested an alternate slogan for this New Zealand life insurance ad: “I’ve seen the future, and you’re not in it.” Funny, they didn’t use it.
Tom then hops over to Australia, for an ad (split into two parts) advising you to Keep Australia Beautiful. (I’m guessing this is before he met Tegan.)
Apparently Australia is just nuts for Doctor Who advertisements, because here’s an ad for ANZ bank featuring a Dalek working in their call center:
This is awesome! The Fourth Doctor loves Prime computers and Romana (Lalla Ward) loves him. They were married briefly, but now Lalla is married to professional God-disser Richard Dawkins.
And finally we end as we started, with Daleks. Only these seem to have been altered somehow:
Let me know if you find any others!
