Last night Mike, TJ, Dan, and I played Stephenson’s Rocket. I’d played it once before; it was Mike’s copy and I’d borrowed it to play with some other folks.
Afterwards we were cleaning it up and Dan asked how I wanted certain pieces to go back in the box. I said, “It’s not mine, it’s Mike’s game, ask him.”
Mike then said, “Actually, you can have it.” No lie, he gave me the game! I double checked that he wasn’t joking, lying, or hopped up on goofballs and nope, it was mine to keep.
Sweet! I really like the game! HOWEVER…
…the reason he gave it to me was because he didn’t really like it. Neither did Dan. And TJ…TJ hated it. I was the only one at the table who really enjoyed it.
Now, I have other folks who have seemed to like it, so all is not lost, but three people is a big chunk of my gaming group! I can’t believe I got this game, which I really like, for free, and then immediately half my potential players said they’d rather get poked in the eye than play it!
Sob! I’ll just have to pull it off the shelf every few months, open the box, sigh loudly, and put it back…
P.S. — Thanks Mike!
