Some in Color, None for a Dime

Hey folks. I’ll be out for a few days while I do some spots opening for Weezer, so in the meantime, feel free to take a gander at what I’m eyeballing out of the newest Previews. I’m over my limit as usual, so help in paring this down is appreciated.

    Tom Strong #35 (DC)
    Tomorrow Stories Special #1 (DC)
    The Originals SC (DC)
    Battle Hymn TPB (Image)
24 Hour Comics Day Highlights 2005 (About)
    Paris #1 (Amaze/SLG)
    Pyongyang (D&Q)
    32 Stories (D&Q)
    Acme Novelty Library #16 (Fantagraphics)
    Mome vol 2 (Fantagraphics)
Knights of the Dinner Table #108 (Kenzer)
    Steamboy Ani-Manga vol 1 (Viz)
    Fortean Times Dec 2005 (FT)

Also, if you think there’s something I need to consider adding, I’d like to hear about it as well. I pay a lot of notice to things other people call attention to, and don’t want to inadvertently overlook something good. So comment away!

Battle Hymn started out interesting, but has been treading water by the third issue. I’m not sure how strong it will end. You may just want to purchase #1, say, “Huh — that’s nifty!”, and go on your merry way.

The Azzarello “Loveless” western from Vertigo is one I am really looking forward to, but then I love westerns. The marvel monster book by Eric Powell looks interesting as well.

Thanks Nathan. I wondered about that. Battle Hymn had a nice look about it, but I didn’t see anyone being really wowed by it. It may get booted from the list.

Bryan, that’s one I’m gonna keep an eye on for when a trade comes out. I could do with a good western comic, but I didn’t really like what I read of 100 Bullets, the only other Azzarello (I’m aware of) that I’ve read.

I’m picking up MOME vol 1 this week, which will make or break volume 2. I should have also listed among the contenders the second volume of Beck: Mongolian Chop Shop. I liked the first volume okay, but I don’t know about continuing. I’m really on a knife edge with it. It could either get me more interested in the book or push me away from it.
